Dec *th, ****. I made a booking for a place called "Goan Homestays" from Booking.com. Since booking.com offers pay at the property options, the booking was accepted and the owner of the property, Edwin Ghosh, said that I need to make **% (Rs. *****) of the payment for the reservation in order to confirm the booking. This was on booking.com's platform so I thought it must go through an official, traceable channel. I made a UPI payment to Edwin and he confirmed the reservation both on booking.com and on WhatsApp.
* days before checkin, which was on **th December, he sends a message saying booking has been cancelled and that my amount would be refunded to me within a few days.
The amount doesn't get refunded. I wait a few more days and reach out to him. No refund. I try to connect with booking.com customer support but no response. He keeps telling me it will get refunded in a few more days but no refund arrives.
I raise a concern through the consumer helpline portal but it gets rejected.
My fault for not following up and thinking it's probably a lost cause so I go give up.
Then I see Voxya and think maybe this can help. I know it's been a while but it's never too late for justice.
